The country’s two big labor federations just announced that they are joining forces to support that effort, which includes a path to citizenship for undocumented workers. That’s double good news.

Vivir sin Dios
Quienes sientan que ya no pueden con la simulación de creer en Dios, pueden echarle un ojo a este texto de Steven Weinberg, aparecido en Letras Libres, para hallar consuelo.
Su texto concluye así: Vivir sin Dios no es fácil. Pero la dificultad misma que conlleva ofrece otra consolación: que hay un cierto honor, quizá tan sólo una adusta satisfacción, en enfrentar nuestra condición sin desesperanza y sin ilusión, con buen humor, pero sin Dios. ~

Los latidos de mi felicidad
Dallas, March the 26th
Nos confirmaron el embarazo hace 16 días.
Pero ayer y hoy hubo ligeros sangrados.
Karina estaba preocupada. Pasó horas leyendo de los sangrados y su relación con los abortos espontáneos.
Urgía ver al médico, saber que todo estaba bien, si todo estaba bien. Nos dieron cita a la 9 sharp.
Llegamos al consultorio temprano.
Despues de más de una hora en la sala de espera, junto con varios padres en ciernes, le indicaron que entrara a un pequeño cuarto.
Le dijeron que se quitara la ropa de la cintura para abajo y que se recostara en una cama con extensiones para mantener las piernas bien abiertas, y una computadora a un lado.
Llegó el doctor, puso gel en un instrumento y lo introdujo hasta muy cerca del centro de mi felicidad.
Se vio la imagen pequeña, en la pantalla en blanco y negro. El doctor movía el instrumento para tener una mejor imagen del pequeño monito apenas con forma.
"Here you can see his legs, and these are his arms. Can you see 'em?", dijo el doctor.
Luego, sin avisar, apretó un botón del teclado y se escuchó un "tun tun tun tun tun" agitado y poderoso.
Karina se irguió en la cama.
"What is that?", preguntó.
"Is the heart, beating", le contestó el doctor.
"Is the heart, beating", "Is the heart, beating", se repetía en mi cabeza. Karina volteó a verme.
Yo no le respondí la mirada. Seguía embobado el recorrido del instrumento en la pantalla.
Por primera vez escuchaba el corazón de mi hijo. Karina no se ofendió por el desaire, sabía bien que nada podía ser más importante en ese momento para mí que seguir escuchando. "The baby is perfect", dijo el doctor. El sonido no era sólo un latido, era el origen todo... de toda mi felicidad.
